Summer in Ohio

Today is the last day of summer break, Micah starts 3rd grade tomorrow and our Princess Mylie starts Kindergarten! It is going to be a very emotional day tomorrow for this mama. I can't believe summer is already over! First I want to apologize for not updating our blog this summer. I find it hard to do since I frequently update our Facebook page. But for those without Facebook I wanted to keep you in the loop on how we are all doing out here in Ohio.

When Summer first started Micah joined the Landen Stingray swim team. It was his first time being on a competitive swim team. He jumped into the pool only knowing how to swim from one end to the other. He had practice every Monday through Friday morning and a swim meet every week! By the end of the season, he knew all three swim strokes and could dive properly off the diving block. At swim Championships he took 3rd in his individual meet. We are so very proud of all his hard work.

Also this Summer we took a road trip from Ohio to Colorado. It took us 2 ten hour days of driving to get there. Let me say that 10 hours of driving in a car with 3 kids under 8 can seem terrifying, but our kids did amazing! During our 10 hours each day we did scavenger hunts, the license plate game, sang songs, told jokes, riddles and tongue twisters and listened to books on CD. We broke up our driving time with some fun stops along the way. Our first stop was in St. Louis, Missouri on travel Day 1 to see the Gateway Arch. The kids loved it! It was surreal to be in Missouri and think that we almost had to move there. When Matt was interviewing for the President position, he was interviewing for Missouri! Nuts! Some other stops included a plane on the side of the highway in Kansas, on the way back we stopped in Nebraska at the Great Archway and Des Moines, Iowa downtown. We made so many memories in Colorado with the Harrison family. It was crazy hot out there, but that didn't slow the kids down. We just kept them wet!

We picked up Morgan in Colorado. She was a human pillow for the kids on the way back :)

The road trip was awesome. We made some amazing memories. I just know I'm going to look back at these pictures and miss the craziness of little ones in the back seat someday.

Fourth of July was just around the corner when we go back from Colorado. We ended up staying home and BBQing. Matt picked up some sidewalk fireworks and we had some neighbors come out to our driveway for the show.

Mindy arrived right before Fourth of July and Megan followed shortly after. We had missed them all so very much and were thrilled to have them here with us in Ohio. Right off the bat, Megan, Morgan and I volunteered at the Village Church kids Summer Camp. It sounded like a great way to get involved with the community and meet some new friends along the way. It became so much more than that. The summer camp lasted for 5 weeks. Micah, Mylie and Max were 3 of the 70 plus kids that showed up to camp every Monday, Wednesday and Friday. With the message of God's love for us, we watched so many kids come to know God more and more everyday. Initially we thought going to camp would be an opportunity to love on those kids, but by the end of camp we realized the impact they had on our hearts and the immense love they were flooding our hearts with. It was hard to say good-bye to them on the last week of camp. God willing we will see them again next summer!

Our summer has winded down with a 3 week long visit from Grandpa Mando. And Grandma Shelly here on the weekends. The kids, Matt and I have very much enjoyed Grandpa with us. We have learned so much about him and his past. And he has learned so much about us and our crazy routine. Grandpa Mando is full of stories and jokes. Mylie says she has the funniest Grandpa in the world! On the weekends Grandma Shelly joins the party and we fill our days with some fun. This past weekend we went to the Creation Museum in Kentucky. We loved seeing history and science explained from a Christian perspective.

This summer in Ohio has been such an adventure. It's been one of the most exciting summers ever! Just being in a new place and having to make new friends has been an all new experience for our family. But as I sit here and reflect on the past 5 months it is clear to see all the God has done for us. He gave us His peace when we found out we would be moving here, he found us a home in Foster's Point which we have grown to love, he planted us among neighbors who are sincere and inviting, he directed us to a Church that has been so welcoming and refreshing, He has given us the courage to reach out and serve our new community, He has blessed Matt at work, He has shown us all His glory in our new beautiful surroundings...and all this in 5 months! Our God is awesome and I am so excited to see all He has in store for the Madrid family, Grandma Gloria, Aunt Mindy, Megan & Morgan this next season! Please keep us all in your prayers :)

God's Glory everywhere we go...

And onto Football season!!! Go Kings!
